Succession | Supported by a faction of nobles, he invaded the palace to depose or assassinate the legitimate king, Wittiza, or maybe to usurp the throne from Agila II, the successor and less probably son of the king, after his natural death. After the coup, the kingdom was divided into two factions, with the southwest (the provinces of Lusitania and western Carthaginiensis around the capital Toledo) in Roderic's hands. |
